One of Rotary’s greatest success stories…

The word PROBUS is derives from the words PROfessional and BUSiness and originated in the mid 60s in England, by Rotary, to provide an autonomous social club for retirees (over 55) and semi-retired business and professional people.

The 1st club in the South Pacific Region was the Probus Club of Kapiti Coast, NZ sponsored by the Rotary Club of Paraparaumu in 1974 followed by the Probus Club of Hunters Hill, NSW Australia in 1976.

Today in Western Australia, there are 92 Probus Clubs with 5,200 members and in Australia overall, there are around 1400+ Clubs with approximately 108,000 members.

Probus is an association of active retirees who join together in clubs, the basic purpose of which is to provide regular opportunities for them to keep their minds active, expand their interests, undertake fun activities and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends.
Membership is open to both men and women retirees and semi-retirees of good character and from all walks of life and business interests.
Probus Clubs are non-profit making and have no fund raising activities.

All Probus Clubs are sponsored by Rotary Clubs, but once formed the PROBUS Club becomes a self-governing and totally autonomous incorporated entity.
